Covid-safe Flyering keeps Adelaide Fringe hustle alive

Covid has taken the opening night parade from the Adelaide Fringe but it hasn't destroyed the important art of flyering, because a new, Covid-safe flyering method was lauched last night for the 2021 Fringe.

Wendy Torbet from local marketing agency, Talked About Marketing, hit the streets with her sandwich board emblazoned with QR codes that lead Fringe goers to a simple, online directory of Adelaide Fringe acts that have paid a small fee to be part of this novel PR scheme.

"I've been a Fringe artist for a long time and as a producer I know the difference that flyering makes so when we heard that Covid rules will stop traditional flyering this Fringe, I spoke with my boss from Talked About Marketing and we put this simple package together," says Wendy.

"Our Covid-safe flyering package is based on a sandwich board with QR codes leading to simple directory pages on one side, and premium poster placement on the other."

"The physical elements are quite simple but what sets this apart from just having QR codes on the street is that Wendy is a dynamo who could convince Proud Boys members to see ballet, and that brings the X-factor to this product," says Steve Davis, owner of Talked About Marketing.

"We've also honoured the style and spirit of the Fringe by repurposing elements for our sandwich boards.

"The boards happen to be repurposed Liberal Party election corflute posters, the QR code sheets printed by Print Mint in Adelaide have been attached with contact, and the over-the-shoulder straps were fetched from Wendy's sewing basket.

"It's this frugal, authentic Fringe approach that has allowed us to keep prices down to the flat rate of $125 plus GST per show," says Steve.

"QR codes on the sandwich board lead to small directory pages on the Talked About Marketing website where Fringe goers can quickly scan the handful of shows they're being directed to, and then from there they can click directly to Fringetix to buy their tickets," says Wendy.

"We know that the Fringe Guide and website are still overwhelming, so the lucky few artists using this service are giving their potential audience members a relaxed and easier way to learn about them and buy tickets."

The package will be available throughout the Fringe and the sandwich board(s) will be parading around the CBD every Thursday, Friday, and Saturday afternoons from 4pm - 6pm.
