Coronavirus scams, your money, unemployment— Jeff’s newsletter cuts through the noise.

How many times have you scrolled through social media, seen a video of a household hack and thought, “Does that really work?”

Watch the video above to see our Chief National Consumer Correspondent Jeff Rossen test out viral TikTok hacks. He’s not just finding out if they work but giving them a grade of difficulty to see if it’s right for you.

Big thanks to all the TikTokers we reached out to who let us use their videos!

DIY Gel Ice Pack: Pour one part rubbing alcohol and two parts water into a plastic bag. Then pop it into the freezer. You can leave it for a few hours and already the ice pack will start forming. The rubbing alcohol keeps the water from freezing all the way. We recommend double-bagging your ice pack in case you want to use it around food or for added protection for kids. This hack was super easy!

Close up cereal and cracker boxes: Fold in the short side flaps of the box. Then fold in one of the longer side’s flap. Take the side of the box and create a crease in the middle like the top of a triangle. Do this to both sides. Then take the remaining flap and tuck it in. The creases on the side will create a fold that keeps the flap and top of the box shut. Once you get the folding down, this is easy!

Folding the chip bag: This hack is a little harder, but it’s doable! If you do it right, you don’t even need a chip clip or tape! All of you have to do is press all of the air out of the bag. Fold the top down three to four times. Fold in the right and left corners of the bag towards the center. Then fold the top of the bag down again. It will help if you push your thumbs inward as well, almost popping the middle upward. This takes practice!
